Designing a standards based cabling system is paramount to the life cycle of a network infrastructure.  Adherence to guidelines within the applicable standards will insure that future technology, designed within the parameters of your chosen system, will operate at an expected level.

The process of selecting the media for a structured cabling system can be confusing, particularly the horizontal segment.  Should you chose UTP or STP, Category 5E or Category 6?  What grade should you chose-minimal compliant, plus or enhanced?  What about 6A the 10GBASE-T standard for 10G over copper?  How does this all relate to bit error rate, CRC errors, fragments and lost packets?
